This episode nine of Grimgar, The Way to Rest, seriously does rest from the chaos with the goblin we had last several episodes, in preparation for an expedition for the group... which turned out to be quite an internal conflict for Mary. Alert for spoilers, intentional or otherwise.
Right at the start, Haruhiro wakes up and said that, "Oh, that's right, we're having a day off." Seriously? A day off three quarter way through the series? However, the first scenes where Haruhiro and Moguzo baked bread and when Haruhiro met Shihoru who was feeding birds were quite nice for character, though the story does not progress.
Sunset... |
And then, Haruhiro met Mary for some idle chatter, about them probably needing to leave their current place. Again, not much to tell here. Except for that sunset.
Ranta did some fishing, while Yume went rock-climbing. Never expected those two doing those things.
Again, the scenery took me away. But also, the first half of the episode had some insert songs... which are so often encountered, one should be used to this by now. Clearly, this is the episode where they really have nothing to tell. But oh well, relaxing song over relaxing paintings gets the nerves clear.
Then, the group went to the tavern at night, and discussed about how the goblins are getting crazier at the old city, and when Haruhiro mentioned the mines, Ranta immediately agreed that they should hunt there. However, as that was the place where Mary lost her team, she ran away.
Yeah, this season's end will pretty much be predictable (if nothing big like Manato dying happens). Mary will need to face her fears and move on, facing the Kobolds. Although, the teary part could become pretty emotional. Interesting scene.
Then, as preparation, the group bought new skills. For once, the show actually gives us a look at how Haruhiro trained for it.
Apparently, it involves being crushed under your teacher. Nice for laughs, which this show quite lacked. One thing: when Sensei Barbara asked whether Haruhiro has a special girl and he reacted, then this show might pair up him and Mary after all. This far into the show. Oh very well, more useless stuff.
Thus, the group traveled to the mines. A little background on the history--surely another minor point. And... that's all. Seriously a peaceful episode, focusing on the group relationships more, and beautifully painted scenes when they are out of story. So... in the next few episodes, they should make up for their lack of story into an at least decent climax.
