Grimgar - Episode 2: Showing Off Its Beauty

So, the second episode came out today, then immediately watched it after school.

The story started by telling us about Manato, the group leader's efforts for the group, as he talked with Haruhiro who couldn't sleep at night. We got to hear a little about their past during training, and I do hope that could have a degree of impact for the future. I dunno, perhaps I am asking too much. That was just an annoying timeskip.

Then, the red moon. Perhaps we'll find out why Haruhiro could remember the old world's moon being red.

And then, we got to see the opening for the first time. The song, Knew day by (K)NoW_NAME, was quite a relaxed song; enjoyable, but I'll let time be the judge of that. Beside that, it used a fascinating theme: marbles, whatever it represents (the multiverse?). But for the most part, it also used a simplistic white background. Perhaps that's also just me that wanted to see more watercolor.

Usually, our hero (or group of heroes) are already quite badass, even overpowered, from the start (Examples: SAO (again), Akame ga Kill, Fate, and most others). From the last episode, we already learned that the main group are still newbies, and without good coordination. That is also seen from this episode, when they struggled to kill a goblin even when they have cornered it.

Killing a goblin was hard business for our party. Fascinating battle.
And now, we are reminded that our main characters are teenagers who never killed a living thing with their own hands before, could still suffer great trauma after finishing off the goblin. This was most obvious in Ranta, who went into a flurry killing the goblin.

By the way, that goblin was quite tough. He was already crushed in the head, for goodness' sake.

And after that, we got to see the group chill off in their poor lifestyle. Fascinating, it's not often a series devoted around five minutes for only peaceful music and beautiful scenes. They're just taking it slow, perhaps. Maybe I'm wrong about this being a fast-paced series; we'll see.

Relaxing scenes over music: something we seldom see.

Finally, we got a form of fanservice. Ranta did get over that trauma quickly. It'll be a shame if we didn't get to see breakdowns like that on further episodes.

Or is it just me who want to see something like Avatar: The Last Airbender, where everything connected? Good show, it was.

This episode had been a slow one, showing beautiful scenes where our heroes relax, for the most part. It also reminded us the internal conflict, the trauma of killing something in our heroes, something which we seldom see. This could be a properly good story, if things continue this way.

Oh, the ending song was... fine. Usually I never pay too much attention to them, though. On that note, well, good night.
